Spent a fun day yesterday with our youth group in Carp. It didn't start out to be very nice but soon enough, despite the fog, it began to warm up & eventually the sun joined us on the beach! Most of the kids went swimming a few tried skim boarding and others swam out to one of the floating (although stinky) docks! All of us took turns off and on throughout the day wandering into town to check out the various shops and food selections! One group returned with a can of whipped cream and a doughnut....yes, just one! Random, but so what, it is summer after all! We laid around and read, ate and got sunburned before it was time to pack up our bags, and say goodbye to summer! But of course not without having In & Out on the way home, a proper send off to our summer beach trips I think!
While in Carpinteria we wandered into a thrift store and a couple Antique Shoppes (must be spelt that way so it seems a bit more schmancy) Anyway I have pretty low expectations whenever I visit a typical Antique store in a touristy town, usually they are pretty proud of their "junk" and so often ask prices that I am waaaaay against paying! BUT I did manage to find a few treasures that were unexpected, and while I held off on all the purchases I wanted to make I did find this old bathroom scale...circa 1950's or so that was a pale pink!!! Still works perfectly ! I tend to love that color, always have, but having 2 boys (3 counting Tom!) I have long since put that color out of my mind...and traded it for blue...green...rockets & bugs!! But we recently painted out master bathroom a wonderfully obnoxious pink (thank you to my very supportive husband!) and have been collecting all sorts of fun things to decorate it with, and this little bathroom scale was just the perfect fit! I bought it, and toted it down to the beach with me!! I will try to post some pics tomorrow! It is adorable!!
I recently have been haunting our local thrift stores, which is unusual since they are not very good and tend to price their items a bit high considering its.......well USED stuff! But of late I have found quite a few bargains I am proud of! A old stainless steel canister for tea, by the way I paid 39c for it and I found the whole set at the antique store for 28$....also I have found 2 vintage sweaters, both 100% lambswool, one made in Scotland and the other I cannot recall, but both are soft and waiting in my closet for a cool day! Both were less than $3! Both are in great shape and prolly 20yrs old!!!! I love getting great quality stuff for a bargain!
Hopefully will post some pictures tomorrow!
